In-Depth Blog Post #1

In-depth, woohoo! I’ve been looking forward to this forever! It’s a chance to finally explore something that I haven’t had the time to before. I knew what I wanted to do as soon as it was announced that we had to start thinking of ideas. So ladies and gentlemen, drum roll please….Without further ado, I pronounce my in-depth as Bhangra dancing! Please, oo and aa as much as you like. :)

I chose Bhangra dancing because ever since I was really little I’ve always enjoyed my culture’s way of dancing. I find it so mesmerizing to watch. I’ve also always been into dance, I love dancing; mind you I get a little shy in public though.  So I thought Bhangra dancing would be great because I get to explore my culture, dance, and get over my fear of dancing in front of people. I would say I’m killing two birds with one stone, but that doesn’t make sense when I’m tackling three things!

It also helped that when I was little my mum was a little bit of a dancer herself. She actually performed at a wedding once and I though it was the coolest thing ever, and you know how little girls want to be like their mums and stuff so since I couldn’t do that when I was younger, I’ll do it now!

Another thing that kind of helped me decide to pick Bhangra dancing is the costumes. I absolutely adore Indian fashion especially dance clothes. I’m so excited that I actually get to dress up and dance in Indian clothing. I barely get that chance anymore.

So as I said, I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and when it first started I started to look for mentors. Obviously I need to take classes and I actually found somewhere relatively close to home. My mum and I still need to check it out first though but because I was away last weekend and this coming weekend, we are going to go next week. It’s a Sunday or Saturday class and the instructor said he would be happy to mentor me. The classes are relatively small as well so I’ll learn a lot. I can’t wait to go meet him and see if the classes are what I need!
